Keeping Obama honest
By Ikeonic

Obama said the following as he closed his inaugural address:

"America, in the face of our common dangers, in this winter of our hardship, let us remember these timeless words; with hope and virtue, let us brave once more the icy currents, and endure what storms may come; let it be said by our children's children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God's grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations."

I for one, intend to keep Obama honest in his promise to preserve freedom for future generations.

How? Well, I could say it no better than what has already said by the Great Communicator.

So I present these choice quotes from Ronald Reagan's "A Time for Choosing" speech in support of Goldwater's 1964 campaign, which succinctly sums up the proper Republican position for the next four years:

"You and I are told increasingly that we have to choose between a left or right, but I would like to suggest that there is no such thing as a left or right. There is only an up or down — up to a man's age-old dream; the ultimate in individual freedom consistent with law and order — or down to the ant heap totalitarianism, and regardless of their sincerity, their humanitarian motives, those who would trade our freedom for security have embarked on this downward course.
Those who would trade our freedom for the soup kitchen of the welfare state have told us that they have a utopian solution of peace without victory. They call their policy "accommodation." And they say if we only avoid any direct confrontation with the enemy, he will forget his evil ways and learn to love us. All who oppose them are indicted as warmongers."

Or in the words of P.J. O'Rourke:

To a true fiscal conservative, tax cuts don't matter much, and neither does the national debt. That is because the real problem is spending. Even the best and most necessary public spending comes with a harrowing price: the percentage of a nation's goods and services controlled by its government is the percentage of freedom and independence taken from individuals and given to politicians. Currently, just at the federal level, that's about 18 percent of your life.

Mr. Obama, we'll be keeping an eye on you... and our wallets. We are the loyal opposition.

In the meantime, congratulations, I wish you nothing but success and am proud to call you my President even though I did not vote for you.

The struggle for the soul of America is happening on many fronts, and that's how we need to fight it. At Modern Conservative, we have a full-spectrum approach and a generational outlook. We're not just trying to win on a few issues, we're trying to move the entire country in the right direction. And we need your help to do it!

There are many activist networks, but AnyStreet goes much deeper. State, county, and precinct. Street by street in neighborhoods across America.

Activist teams are forming in areas across the country. Get connected. Get active. Changing America starts on your street!

Protests and rallies serve a purpose, and they sure are fun...but they can only do so much. Without policy initiatives and plans for implementation, all that great energy can go to waste.

Our think tank has got just the ticket, producing nationwide campaigns with achievable goals...for real results.

For too long, the left has had its way with our culture, suffusing it with propaganda, revisionism, and ugliness.

We need to do more than just complain. We need to offer resources, alternative choices, and alternative art communities... more

Everyone talks about the need for more unity in the conservative movement. Well, we're here to help!

Our calendar is for everyone. The entire conservative movement! Post your action items. Post your events. Take part in online action, or find out what is happening in your local area.

Along with our calendar, our other service to our friends throughout the movement is our directory. Imagine it: one place where you can find a listing for every organization, every blog, professionals and even candidates. That's what we're building. Search by issue, by region, by focus. Get plugged in to the entire conservative universe!

To help keep you informed, we provide several news services. Modcon Central and our other blogs provide news, commentary, and provocative essays. Our headlines are hand-selected from the most interesting stories of the day. And of course, we have a forum where you can comment on what we've posted or add your own topics!

We're working now, behind the scenes, on the ultimate weapon in the war of ideas. A resource like nothing else.

In order to finish this, and to keep our operations moving forward, we need your help.

Your donation today—large or small-keeps us fighting for the many causes we share!
