I was catching up early this morning on what went down yesterday afternoon on some of my favorite blogs, and I came across this post on Captain's Quarters. I then looked at the links Ed has therein, and I read this from Hot Air. After reading the pieces, I scanned through the comments, and I noticed that, by-and-large, everyone is focusing on the hypocrisy vis-a-vis the Dems' ex-Klansman Senator Robert Byrd.

I think it's important to remind everyone of him, indeed, but he is just one man. The larger meme that should be on everyone's lips is the fact that the KKK itself was created by the Democrats as their terrorist wing. And that's no urban legend, that's a matter of congressional record. The Democrats founded the KKK to kill Republicans. That was its purpose. This allowed the Democrats the opportunity to target the two groups they have most hated in history. Republicans (whom they continue to hate more than communists, jihadis, and child-rapists combined), and recently freed blacks, 100% of whom were Republican at the time. (Notice that, to this day, the only person they seem to hate more than a Republican is a black Republican? Interesting, that.)

So this, I think, is far more important that just Robert Byrd. The Democrats were the creators of the KKK. They were the Party of Slavery, secession, Jim Crow, Dred Scott, and opposition to the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments. The opposed every piece of civil rights legislation the Republicans tried to pass for 100 years. They opposed Republican anti-lynching legislation (no no, mustn't make lynching illegal). And to this day, they continue to appear to hate Republicans more than America's enemies, and black Republicans most of all.

IMHO, THAT is the meme everyone should be spreading.

I have written tons on this, as have many others. Please learn the history, because it has more pertinence today than it, at first blush, might appear.
